Paul’s client Tony commissioned him to do a portrait of his beloved dog Arthur as a birthday present for his wife. Paul explained it would only be a limited edition print of the work, because he keeps originals for sale on his website for the discerning eye to benefit from and appreciate but also for entering national art competitions at his discretion.

When Paul’s client collected the work, Tony was overwhelmed with the quality of the drawing and certainly did not suspect such a sublime depiction, saying “it captures the likeness of Arthur perfectly”. In fact when Tony collected the finished framed artwork he was so pleased with the portrait that he said he couldn’t wait for his wife’s actual birthday later that month, but presented her with it that night instead. Later that evening his wife rang Paul personally and said she couldn’t believe how wonderful the degree of detail and the level of quality in the artwork was, and that Paul had captured Arthur’s personality so perfectly, beautifully and most realistically.

Subsequently Paul has learned that Arthur now sits with pride of place permanently on the wall of their lounge for all to see and be admired. Apparently many comments of awe, amazement and praise have been most forthcoming.

As a consequence Paul received a further commission for another much loved pet portrait.

This work now sits permanently on public display upon the internal hallway walls of the French château, as an authenticated signed limited edition print, 1 of 250.

“Your work is extremely impressive! Thank you for sharing it with us. It’s a shame you didn’t enter your work for Kelvin Okafor (2017 panel judge) to see as I am certain he would have selected your work. Best wishes, Cloe.” Cloe Barrett BA (Hons) Fine Art, Marketing Consultant at National Open Art, 22 June 2018.

“Your photorealist drawing is excellent, very well done. Keep up your good work!” Neil Lawson Baker, Executive Chairman of the National Open Art Competition, 17 January 2017.

“Paul is an amazing artist and I feel privileged to be able to model for his project. He had a vision and knew exactly what he wanted to achieve for his project. He was patient and communicated very well. I had seen his previous work and I was impressed by his talent but when he showed me the final portrait of mine I was just speechless. The portrait was amazing, so real, the fine detail like the hair and even the ripple of my vest was spot on. Paul has such an amazing talent and I know that he will go further with this talent. I wish you all the best for the future Paul, and will cherish this lovely experience for a long time.” Daya Pun, the model for this portrait, by email in 2013.

“Ryan sent me these images that you sent in which are superb. We are launching our new website through which we hope to develop a community of artists. This may be something that you wish to be involved in as it develops?” Rob Ireland, Managing Director, Creativity International Limited, by email in 2011.

About the artworks

Every drawing is crafted by hand in 100% graphite pencil on A3 ultra-smooth paper of 250 gsm. This is an exceptional medium for hyper-realistic graphite work. A single piece takes many hundreds of hours, and in some cases more than a thousand. Each artwork self-evidentially demonstrates a level of mastery and patience that is exceptional in the modern world. The subjects are chosen for their inherent natural beauty rather than their fashionability, with the full range of works encompassing a diverse range of themes including architectural splendour, pastoral landscapes, equestrian life, naturalism, animals, pets, portraits, et al. Whilst commissions are multi-themed accordingly.

All of Paul’s picturesque artworks provide a monumental testament to discipline and spiritual devotion. They are not just punctilious reproductions of a tangible snapshot in time to something physical and intrinsically beautiful, they naturally contain a certain spiritual quality too. For an inherent definitiveness — which speaks volumes about the level of skill, spirit, drive, motivation, focus and sheer appreciation of life required to produce such precise facsimiles of beauty and reality in the here and now — also visibly resides within each of his quintessential works of exquisite fine art.

Paul relates this ‘spiritual quality’ to the intrinsic quality inherent in nature. A distinct quality akin to the perceivable divine skill, spirit and focus that is woven into the very fabric of all things natural. A certain latent spirit residing throughout all elements of the natural physical world since time immemorial. An intrinsic nature and quality perceivable to all who open the door to what nature is saying. This fundamental quality and force fulfils God’s sacred purpose within humanity, even as it stands openly revealed throughout the natural world, offering a timeless witness to every generation.

Paul’s diverse subject matter — from the architectural grandeur of Le Lude to iconic portraits — shows that he sees the reflection of diverse beauty and perfection across all aspects of creation and human achievement.

Artist statement

“I am not careerist driven but intrinsically spiritually driven, motivated and empowered: if this results in providing a career then it is secondary to one’s devotion to the understanding and utilisation of truth, creativity and knowledge; God provides the bread.

This is the foundational pillar from which my God-given talent, aptitude and blessings flow, grow and prosper under the numinous Spirit of Truth.”
